Do you think America is too much of a world police?
ByThe minute ANYTHING happens around the world, the U.S. quickly intervenes. A great example is what is going on in Libya right now. I know we haven’t fully considered arming the rebels with weapons yet, but I’m sure we’ll give in eventually. We are one of the youngest countries and we have a LONG way to go if we want as much power as we think we have. I’m so sick of this "protecting America’s interst" b.s. when a conflict happens in a third world country. It would be in our BEST interest if we paid attention to what’s going on within our own country, before we stick our nose in other people’s business don’t you think? i.e. economy, unemployment, border security, etc.I’m not sure what party embraces this ideal more and I don’t care. I’m conservative and I think this just makes the most sense to me. Anyone else agree/disagree with me. BTW please don’t turn this into a political debate pointing fingers at the opposite party you’re affiliated with. I just want some input and your points of view. Thanks guys! ![]()
I completely agree…. America has plenty of problems. We are far from the worst country but we are definately not fit to be role models at this point. We have many flaws, so who are we to tell another region how to run their country? I always assume our government is trying to portray it in the media as "helping" another country, but possibly they are only invading because they want something in return (like evoking fear of America, stealing oil, etc.). There is a lot of work to be done on our own territory… I’m only 19, but as far back as I can remember, it seems to me that America has always been the world bully.

tl;dr
Amrica gets involved for many many reasons. But those reasons always relate to how the president feels on a particular issue. You should question why Obama is involved in Libya. Find out why he wants us there.

it is always great do help in other countries because it will eventually but us in the rear end. such as in Libya, gas prices are going up because they are a big oil producer. leaders are doing their best here to stop all of that. it’s just not that simple.

It really depends who is at the helm. On the other hand if not us then who. The UN is a joke and NATO forgot why they were formed.

You coule sit back and let the terrorist groups gather in Libya, become powerful and watch them destroy us. Or did you think they were too nice for that?

I too am sick of ourselves. We can help everyone but risk a government shutdown to close a budget gap. Our ideals are way out of line. How the f**k can we help others I we can’t help ourselves? We need to stay out of other people’s business and turn the attention back here. As we try to ‘help’ people, we really create enimies and get outselves in to debt. Just goes to show how suckish our presidents and mostly Mr Help The Friend Obama have recently been. America is screwed unless we get someone who can think straight. What we need is more people like you to get us on the right track.

do you know why we have military bases all over the world? Its to protect our interests. In the most recent years it has been because of oil. We want a friendly government in any oil producing nation.we didn’t go to Iraq over any weapons which weren’t there any way,we went to secure oil for ourselves. in a way we are no different than Rome was. Myself i don’t really care what happens in other countries as Long as i have gas in my chopper and my trusty 45,and a wet willing woman!

I don’t the see the USA as a world police, I see the USA as the shady businessman who happens to have a big gun and a will to use it. He only "helps" those he can benefit from helping, striking deals wherever he can.
Anyway, I agree with you, even if I may agree with you or other reasons. The USA is no altruistic benefactor, as is the myth among many Americans. Even if it were, it wouldn’t justify all its actions abroad.
